Design Tasks

Design concept, branding, interior design, service design,

In april 2014 Trondheim´s tourist information opened their new center located on the the main street of Trondheim. During the six preceding months Nice and Bjørke partnered up to develop the new concept and design. As project managers we were responsible for concept, design and managing the budget and a total of over 20 different suppliers.

Design Priorities

Our ambition was creating a centre reflecting both the heritage of the city and contemporary Trondheim. We aimed to create a visitor experience that could appeal not just to tourists, but local citizens as well. This ambition, combined with a challenging second floor location, informed the design process.

Give the locale a street-level presence

Connect the center with the outside street to make it easy to identify. (Part of this concept is still unrealized)

Create engagement at the entrance to draw people in

The stairs themselves had to become an attraction to get people inside the doors

Establish a unified identity for the center

Several organisations would be operating the center together, but the visitors had to experience a unified entity

Provide engaging ways to discover the city and the region

The interior and interactive installations are all locally sourced and represent the region

The new center has a completely refurbished space including new layout and lighting, custom-made interior, signage, an unique motion triggered light installation guiding visitors up to the second floor and a custom interactive map application which helps you explore the city according to your own preferences.

In the aftermath of the project we partnered up with the developers in Dogu to develop the application further under the name Visitscreen.
