How do you implement a new culture within an organization of over 450 employees, organized into five different companies on several different locations? How can you make cultural change both tangible and relevant for employees? These questions were key when Nice partnered up with TrønderEnergi to apply design methodology in order to improve company culture.
TrønderEnergi is the leading electricity company in Trøndelag region. The company is currently in the process of shifting the organizational culture in order to meet the challenges the industry face in the future. Our task was to see how we could apply design methodology in order to find new and better ways to implement cultural change within the company. Our goal was to translate the often abstract process of cultural change into concrete and actionable ideas and solutions.
One of our main goals was to find ways of making the process of changing the company’s culture relevant for employees, this was done by regarding the internal processes in TrønderEnergi as if it were a service. By utilising ethnographic research methods, visualisations and facilitating a series of multi-disciplinary workshops we gained valuable insights that we translated into opportunities, actions and design directions emphasising four main drivers:

Better flow of information and transparency
Knowledge as a foundation for emphasising personal relations
Personal relations and actions supporting team work
